MONTHLY NEWS FOR THORNTON CITY EMPLOYEES

Prom t}ie City
8-Jariager$ CJJes~
Service
courtesy ....
responsiveness
several words which
describe our mission as employees of the
City of Thornton.
In our everyday dealings
with citizens, we all should continually
remain cognizant that their impression
of the City is formulated largely on the
impression they receive about us.

Vol. 10 No. 5

May 29, 1981

BUDGET REQUESTS DUE
Budget forms were distributed in early
May to those responsible for preparing
individual area budgets. Completed preliminary budget requests are due back on
June 5.
FESTIVAL DAYS
Festival Days begins on June 4 and will
run through June 7. Scheduled events include a rodeo, parade, balloon races, a
carnival, and performances by both Waylon

Such impressions are formed by both
direct contact and observation. Those
employees working outside, and subject
to observation, should be keenly aware
that their actions are viewed as representative of the City. Whether we enjoy
it or not, being a public employee makes
us accountable to the entire community.
So, I would hope that as we all go
about our respective job duties that we
convey a positive impression and one of
service; that we communicate courteously; and that we be responsive and
seek excellence.
Your personal commitment is
appreciated.

Gary Hill, our Chief Utilities Inspector, had quite a scare on his last fishing
trip. While driving in a snowstorm, he
almost went over the side of a mountain!!!
With his truck balanced on the edge, he
managed to get out and go for help. We re
sure happy to have Gary (and his truck)
home again!
Monty Telitz is our new temporary inspector. We are hoping to have a temporary
drafter and a temporary surveyor for the
summer months, plus filling the position of
our permanent drafter. This will bring
our total number of people to eighteen ....
don t know where we're going to put everyone. It will be cozy, to say the least.

Walt Swank, one of our Equipment Operators, resigned this past month. Walt is
going to be farming, taking care of his

Commerce City. (How did he find time to
work eight hours a day for the City--plus
standby???) Best of luck to Walt!

Don Fields was in to let everyone know
that he is feeling much better and antici•
pates returning sometime the latter part of
May. That is, after 1'1-e has fulfilled h.is
summons for jury duty.
We would like to let everyone know that
Terry Rasmussen, Equipment Operator for the
Sanitation Division, has gone home from the
hospital and seems to 5.e in very good
spirits. Terry lost his thumb in an accident with a refuse collection truck on the
8th of May. Much credit goes to Steve Young,
Sanitation Supervisor, and Doyle Weeks,
Eq~ipment Operator, who were working with
Terry at the time of the accident for stopping the bleeding and helping to keep Terry
from going into shock while they waited for
the flight for Life helicopter to arrive.
Lots of good luck wishes .go to Terry along
with the nearly $200 collected for him and
his family. Many thanks to all of you who
contributed with a special thanks to Bev
Lane for doing a tremendous job of getting
the word out about the collection. And, of
course a very special recognition and gratitude go to Steve and Doyle. We are all
looking forward to seeing Terry soon.
We want to welcome our summer helpers.
We have several summer employees who are
helping us out with jobs that would otherwise be waiting at the bottom of the list
to get done. Most of these people will
begin by June 1, and we are happy to have
them.
Special recognition goes to Steve Young,
Sanitation Supervisor for being selected as
the Public Works Employee of the Month for
the month of April. Steve has been doing a
tremendous job since Howard McGee, Superintendent of Sanitation, has had some added
temporary responsibilities passed onto him.
Steve was honored at a luncheon. Congratulations, Steve!
A retirement party is planned for
Maurice Vansoest on June 12, at the Royal
Fork Restaurant on Melody Drive. The
luncheon starts at 11 :45 a.m., and will
cost $3.35 per person. Please call
Sharon at extension 276 if you plan to
attend. EVERYONE INVITED!!!
