oua TEAM

oua NAME

Problems and troubles seem to
_be plaguing our softball team in
its first season. Injuries9 vacations and snift wc rk have inte:i."f~red ,-,'Ji th po t h .pr-acz i ce .·and regular games.
It is a little hard to play a
game when you can only field
5
players9 which is what happened
recently. All was not lost9 how
ever9 because the other team loan
ed 4 men, and a practice game was
played.
This paper also takes issue
with those persons who when told
of our first win asked9 11Who did
they p Lay ?"
Donvt forget the next game!!!!
July 28th9 at 9:30 P.M. at the F.
M. Day Field9 69th & Pecos St.

The name chosed from entries
submitted for naming the paper
was Bill Knobelochvs choice. He
won the portable mixe:c and fishing reel.
Bill said he could really use
the mixer and his wife would appreciate the reel.
The staff9s thanks to all of
you who entered the contest.

YOU HAVEN9T SEEN ANYTHING YET

If you are seein6 new faces in
new places9 they are probably
:not new employees.
There have been many chan0es
in the last montL.
Elaine Stockton has moved into
the Utility Department from City
Hall9 Don ~ohrbaugh9 who heads up
t.he City vs computer sy at em , now 9
has his desk over in the city
side. Lucile Pacifico now has a
desk in with the buildin~ depart
ment and has assumed some additL ional duties for· that -.office.
There is one new face in City
Ha LL,
our' new City Clerk. Penny
Conlin9 who sta:rted July 17th in
her new duties. VJ'elcor11e Penny.
We are a gr owi.ng City and this
is all part of the ef'f'cr-t to
meet todays needs.

JEALLY GREAT
We hear so much about aTitifeelings and how hard it is to
get aloni with one another
in
tLis world 9 that when people fail
to disagree it is not nev.s ,
Well1 this is news because it
is so great!!!!!
The co-operation of everyone
in get t.Ln ; out this paper has
been t.r-emendou s ,
The reporters1 the gals who
did the typing of the stencils
end the gals who put it together
and got it to you were just great
and you wLo took time to comment
on the paper9 are great1 too.
We do need some more help
from you readers. If you see or
hear something that you think
should be in the paper1 please
turn it in.
The re~orters can9t be arounf
in the right p l a ;e a_t the right
time all the time.

GLAD YOUR BACK
It is nice to see Bob Carman
back at his desk after being off
ill but hope he will take it easy
and not overdue. Bein6 sick isn9t
tLat mucL fun.

PROMOTIONS

'THE THING'

Congratulations to Ron Strachan on
his promotion to investigator and to Ed
French on his promotion to sergeant.
Good luck in your new duties.

Did you hear about the box that sat
in the Utility Department for over
a
week before Jerry Groothuis found out
what it was doing there?
We heard that Jerry asked justaboot
everyone in City Hall if 'The Thing' belonged to them.
'The Thing' being ateletype typewriter. He couldn't find any
one who knew anything about 'The Thing'
About the time he thought that 'The
Thing' was going to sit there forever
he found that Sherry Meier (utility book
keeper) had some of the answers.
Seems that a transport company had
delivered and Sherry had signed for some
valves for the treatment plant. The only
problem being that the box they left did
not contain valves but 'The Thing.'
The last we heard was that Sherry
states that she is going to see
ever1
box she signs for and Jerry swearing if
he never sees another 'Thing' it will b2
too soon.
Jerry, Phil Harris told you abou:. :.
what would happen, you just didn't heed
his advice.

SCHOOL D1WS
One of the reasons for the excellent
job our Fire Department does is the fact
that they are always in training.
This past month Greg Sheehan and Ed
Conrad attended emergency medical technician school at Colorado General Hospital
and Carl Stanley and Jan Bowers attended
this training at Valley View Hospital.
Attending command officer school at
C.S.U. in Fort Collins were-Grsg,Sheehan,
Ken St. Onge and Jim Wilson.
ANNOUNCEMENT
The maintenance department announces
that Jake, 'Duty Mouser' gave birth to 6
kittens, in the attic no less. This has
to be an all time high for Jake.
Anyone want a free kitten? There is
an assortment of colors.

VACATIONS APPARANT
Vacation time was apparant in the
Thornton Police Department in the last
month.
Among those enjoying a short summer
vacation were Charleen Isbell, Ed French,
and Ronald Rotella.
Taking over on dispatching
duties
for awhile in July was
Charles Brucker,
who returned to patrol duty July 18th.
Vacations do require some shifting
of jobs, don't they?
NOW REALLY
Have you heard about the·City employ
ee who lost, in one evening, a new book,
her bra and some cash?
She says she was
at home.
For the curious, more details may be
obtained from Louise.
She won't let us
use her first name.

PROUD OWNER'S
Danny and Mrs. Cercone are the proud
owners of a '72 Oldsmobile Cutlass.
They had had it 2 days when an incompident driver smashed in the rear end
and for what it is worth, Danny, we are
sorry.
Some days it doesn't pay to get out
of bed.

-----·---··-----PERHAPS YOU'VE NOTICED
Around the Thornton area .new firE
hydrants are replacing the old ones.
These new, sleek, modern styled hyd r'arrt s
are the ultimate in the fashion world of
fire hydrants.
WHO WOULD EVER BELIEVE
Bob Gorsline reports that we are net
able to receive water from both Westmi:1ster and Denver. Togetherness is great!

useful gifts.
Lucille will be married on September
9th to Bill Miller of Westminster.
EGO BUILDING
Becky Henry, who has worked for the
City during the past 3 summers, will be
married on July 29th.
The prospective
groom is Jerry Sanburg.
Becky and Jerry, who both graduated
this year from Southern Colorado State
College, are planning teaching careers.

A little girl living in Denver called the Thornton Fire Department to report
that her mattress was on fire.
It makes us feel proud to have Thornton Fire Department singled .. out
over
Denver Fire Department. Thanks Sweetie!!

Best wishes to both of these young
ladies. It's been a joy to share their
happiness.

----- ----------------------

Building Inspector Lennie Logan vacationed with his family at the old mining
town of Saint Elmo.
Fishing was the prime activity but
Lennie spent one day
climbing Tin. "Cup
Pass with his son, Larry.
Sounds like a
great way to get away from it all!!!

Would you believe that there is some one
who picks movies by the title?
They
thought 'The Biscuit Eater' was rated X.

!ILL P,BOARD
The Castrodale family recently spent
a week camping and sightseeing in the
southwestern corner of the state.
Highlight of the week was a trip on
the narrow gauge train between Durango
and Silverton.
Jim tells us this is a
wonderful way to see some of the most
spectacular scenery in Colorado.
-----·-··-··-

FORESIGHT
We believe in foresight and preparation but how about the guy who
called
the fire department for an ambulance before he beat up on a fellow he
didn't
like. Guess this is pure confidence.

Then there was the guy who -.thought that
water breaks should be reported. in advance.

VACATION? YOU BET!!
Assistant Fire Chief Jim Scott is
getting his camper all ready for a vacation trip to California. Lamar
Whitney
and Carl Stanley are gone - on vacations
from the Fire Department.
Jim
Randall
returned reluctantly from his
vacation,
and reported that it was just too nuch
fun.

PUT OUT THE FIRE
The Thornton Fire Department received quite a few calls reporting a truck on
fire. It turned out to be .the truck spraying for mo~quitoes.
