WE ARE SORRY
If this issue of the paper seems a
little short and rather thrown together,
it is!!! We had to hurry and finish the
paper on Wednesday since we were to be
closed the 25th in memory of President
Johnson.
We did leave some things out that we
received for this issue and will
see
that they are in next month for sure.

TEAMING UP FOR SAFETY

THE TRUEST KIND OF LOVE

Take a group of great, but unfamiliar athletes and put them into a game
and they will probably lose. The missing element is TEAMWORK, without which
no group of players can succeed.
The same is true where you work.
Like a team, each person has his own
job, but must coordinate his efforts
with others to produce winning results.
A major concern of any athletic team
is the chance of injury to teammates.
The same should be true in your department or division, because, like any
team, injury to any member of your team
will effect the others.
Accident prevention is a team affair
both on the field and on the job.
All
team mem~ers must work together
for
safe conditions, safe equipment, and
safe work practices.

Once in awhile we are blessed with
seeing in action the love of a child and
Mary Belle Clair was recipient of such
love this Christmas season.
Shortly before Christmas, Mary Belle
was given a gift by her young grandson
that had to be opened right away, the
treasure couldn't wait for Christmas
morning.
The package had been wrapped
with no help from Mom or Dad and contained the work of a music box which
played Brahm's Lullaby.
After thanking her grandson for the
special gift, Mary Belle was told the
full story of how the gift was purchased.
For one week, her grandson had given his
lunch to a boy at school in order to pay
for the gift he wanted for his grandmother.

WATER TREATMENT WINTER OPERATIONS
Thornton
The Western Hills and
Treatment Plants are now shut down for
the winter.
The Softening Plant is now supplying
all water to Thornton and Northglenn.
The treatment operators from both
plants are working three daily shifts
at the Softening Plant during these
winter months.

The fact that Thornton is a growing

when the Utility Dept. opened a branch
office in the Empire Savings Bldg. at
104th and Huron.
The new office is open from 9 to 1

Friday and is manned by Mary Belle Clair

GOOD NEWS OR BAD?
Females throughout Adams County mourn!
Officer James Hogan was married in December and to add to the female population
misery, Lt. Ron Rotella also tied
the
knot before the year was over.
It should be noted that it
was
strictly co-incidental that Lt.
Rotella, Charleen Isbell and Ann Weber all
took vacations the same week in December. After all, Lt. Rotella was
on
his honeymoon.

A GREAT GET TOGETHER

BITS AND PIECES

Police Department employees and their
families enjoyed a special Christmas
treat.
A party with all the trimmings,
including Santa Claus (played by Officer
Bob Wilson, who incidentally did such a
perfect job, that even some of us "grown
ups" were convinced that he was the
original from the North Pole.)
Gifts
and candy were provided for all of the
kiddies and we all enjoyed
coffee,
punch, cake and ice cream. Investigator
Jim Allen's wife spent a great deal of
time and effort decorating the Highlander Building and she also made clever
ceramic wall plaques for the children.
Special thanks to a special lady.
Let's start the new year right by
blowing our own horns. A great bunch of
guys and gals who work long hard hours,
but always manage to be cheerful and
take extra time to help one another and
others.

ALL IN A DAY'S WORK
Sometimes in trying to be sweet and
thoughtful you make problems, as Doris
Rohret found out last month.
It happened on a morning when there
just wasn't enough time for everything
that needed to be done before leaving
for work. Hurrying and not wanting to
wake her husband, Doris got her shoes
from the closet in the dark and left
for work.
Shortly after Doris was settled at
her desk and started on the new day'swork it was pointed out to her that
she was wearing shoes of different colors and different heel heights.
Doris called her husband, explained
the problem, and asked that a pair of
matching shoes be brought to her.Until the shoes arrived she managed
to
act as if a shoeless secretary was the
most normal thing in the world, which
takes some doing.
We are curious, did he bring a shoe
to match one she already had or a different pair?

SPRING FEVER-SOFTBALL STYLE
They said it couldn't be done,
but
let's prove them wrong.
Utility Inspector, B. Donaldson, is
attempting to organize a "Girl's Softball Team" to represent the City
of
Thornton. How about it
gal's
after
sitting at those desks all day, this
is just the thing to unwind.
And
if
there are any of you guys
out there
who's wife would like to join in, they
are welcome. Also needed will be a few
brave males to coach and umpire.
You
may contact Bob at Ext. 35 for further
details.

The City employees might be interested to know of the recent authorization for purchase of a tandem
