BITS & PIECES FROM BEVERLY
Gene Hunter, Electrical Inspector,
underwent surgery February 19 at
Valley View Hospital
for removal of a malignant tumor
in his throat.
We are praying for Gene's complete recovery and will let you know when
he is able to have visitors.
Dennis Kuckelman noted
that
on
February 5 Cary Palmer wore socks
that were the
same color.
I wonder if that means Cary doesn't usually
wear matching socks or if Dennis was just making conversation?
I hope
to be able to say
in the near future that
the wall in the
Building Department has been finished. Work is progressing very slowly.
Changes again
in basement personnel:
Jim Keller moved to the 2nd
floor
and Tom Haynes moved to
the basement.
I understand
(via the
grapevine)
that we
can
expect more new faces in the basement in the
near future.
If anyone has the idea all the Building Department
does is to issu~
permits and make inspections -- think again. We have the most interesting
conversations with
citizens and contractors, sometimes in person
and sometimes on the phone.
On one day during the past month our conversations
covered the following topics:
requirements for C.B. antennaes, fences on corner lots,
two
inquiries regarding
room additions,
two inquiries regarding
requirements for homeowners finishing basements, four calls ftom contractors who were bidding
on a $200,000 new church and wanted to know our
requirements for licensing and permits.
Things are rarely quiet in the
Building Department.
Probably the most interesting two calls this past month was one with
a young
lady concerning
our
requirements for a health studio, which,
after a ten-minute
conversation,
turned
out to be a proposed massage
parlor, and one concerning
Building Department requirements in connection with the drilling of an oil well.
Both calls
found us scrambling
for copies of ordinances and doing some serious reading
before answering questions.
But if
anyone
should
call
in the future on massage
parlors or oil wells, we're well versed on the subject and know exactly
what to tell them.

THE BALLAD OF THE BRONCOS
The Denver Broncos of A.F.L. sham~,
Entered the N.F.L. to seek their fame.
With a coach as well-known as Lou Saban,
They were sure to enter Super Bowl Haven.
But the team under Saban showed no grit,
And they were soon at the bottom of the pit.
They had Rich Jackson and a back named Little,
But they weren't enough to solve the riddle.
The fans' spirits were sinking low,
So 'ole Lou left for Buffalo.
Then along came Ralston with just one goal,
To take the Broncos to the Super Bowl.
His first season was just the same,
They weren't ready for Super Bowl fame.
The next year they came oh so close,
Next year was their year, that was no boast.
The fans just couldn't wait for the upcoming season,
An expected Super Bowl visit was the reason.
But again the Broncos came up short,
They just weren't the Super Bowl sort.
In '75, with Armstrong out for the year,
The Super Bowl dream was dead, that was clear.
The fans became very irate,
For their team was second-rate.
So the Broncos are back in the same old groove,
With nothing to lose, and everything to prove.
Jerry Groothuis submitted this short poem for us.
His son, Jeff, wrote
it just for fun.

VACATION NEWS
FLU BUG HITS CITY HALL
One of the worst flu epidemics
has hit City Hall.
It seems that
nearly everyone
either
has come
down with
it
or
is recuperating
from it.
To mention only a few of
the
people
it
has
hit:
Bob
Donaldson,
Tom Clouser,
Jerry
Groothuis,
Jim
Keller,
Jim
Castrodale,
Sherry Meier,
Elaine
Stockton,
Lucille Miller,
Ruth
McCullah,
Evelyn Utterback,
Gel
Eggers,
Cary Palmer,
Al
Smith,
Dennis Kuckelman,
Duane Tinsley,
and Mary Winterhof.
It seems like
everyone above
came down with the
flu at the same time.
Also, Bob Donaldson's
2½ year
old
daughter,
Tracy,
came down
with
the
flu and was admitted to
Valley
View
Hospital
Friday,
February 20,
We all hope she will
be well soon.

Penny
Conlin took time off to
go skiing over the holidays.
She
reported the slopes were so crowded
that she
didn't
get in very much
skiing.
Jim and Karen Perry and Sandra
and Gary Kailey also
went
skiing
over the holidays in February.
Doris Rohret
has returned from
her
two
week vacation.
Doris
spent
her vacation
at home with
company from Canada.
She also got
some
of
her
daughter's wedding
preparations out of the way.
Lucille Miller will
accompany
her husband,
Bill,
to
Oklahoma
City on March 10, 11 and 12, where
Bill will
be competing in a bowling tournament.
Good luck, Bill.
Jim and
Karen Perry will be on
vacation during
the week of March
14. They will stay in Bre6kenridge
and will
be
skiing
all
the ski
areas with part
of Karen's family
and friends from Texas.
Jim says
they will
either be
dead or at
least broken when they return.
