'THE VOICE OF THORNTON EMPLOYEES'

GREETINGS FROM EDITOR
Starting to work for the City of Thornton has been quite an experience!
First, I had a whole sea of new faces and names to
learn, then I was introduced to a very scary looking machine that
I was suppose to operate and now- I am editing my first paper.
I
appreciate very much the friendly atmosphere that helped me feel
at home very quickly and all the patience everyone extended while
waiting for typing jobs to be returned.
After reading through past editions of the "Chatter" it's apparent you have a paper to be proud of!
It's too bad the last
few editions were not published.
I look forward to helping get
it started again.
As you can see from the scarcity of items this
time, some of you did not believe we were really going to have a
paper--many departments I noticed in past editions did not report
any news this time.
Come on reporters let's all chip in and make
the next issue of the "Chatter" the bestest ever (not good
English, but you get the point).

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH
Employee of the Month honors for August go to Bud Elliot.
Bud
was recommended for the "outstanding job" he did in helping the
Utility Department through the period in which the department was
without a Utility Engineer. During this nine-month period it was
noted that Bud performed both his own position of Assisant
Utility Engineer and that of Utility Engineer in a most
professional manner with "drive and enthusiasm".
For Bud's
capable efforts, he was awarded a $25 Savings Bond and a plaque
at the City Council meeting on August 28th.

EMPLOYEE SUGGESTION AWARDS

We would like to congratulate Harry Ewig, Howard McGee, Fred
Conway, and Mike Dittman on receiving recognition for their
suggestions on improving our work environment and/or services to
Thornton residents.
For their efforts each of these four
individuals was presented a $50 Savings Bond at the City Council
meeting on August 14th.
Harry suggested that floor drains on the second
Columbine Treatment Plant be rerouted to eliminate
into the sump pumps.

Howard's idea was that developers be required to provide adequate
trash bins throughout their construction areas to insure proper
maintenance of these areas.
Fred offered the suggestion that an overhead exhaust system be
installed at the City Shops in order to improve the air quality
of those working on vehicles.
Mike Suggested that the Citizen Newsletter contain a report form
for citizens to report problems to the City exclusive of the
office hours at City Hall.
we encourage all other employees to look for ways to improve the
quality of our services and efficiency of our employees.

ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT
TODAY'S HIGH PRICES:
They're lower now than
they probably ever will
be again.

Temper is what gets most
of us into trouble. Pride
is what keeps us there.

ENERGY CONSERVATION

I have been noticing that employees are becoming
conscious. Lights are left on in unoccupied areas.

less

energy

The city expends a great deal of money in electrical utilities
each year, and I am sure a portion of this cost is waste.
I am requesting that each of us take time to ensure all
unnecessary 1 ights and appliances are turned off when they are
not required.
True, Public Service Company advertises a light only takes a few
cents to operate; however, multiply this amount by each light we
have in the city plus the assorted appliances and it involves a
considerable cost to the city.
Thank you for your cooperation

NEW ARRIVAL
On August 15, 1978 in the small hours of the morning, Anthony
Michael Genry made his entrance into the world.
He weighed 6
lbs., 13 1/4 ozs.
Needless to say, mama and papa are very proud
of their new son.
At last sight, Shannon and Anthony were both
doing very well healthwise and Terrence was relaxing after his
busy night. Congratulations and Best Wishes to all three of you!
