place in the City in the past
five years, and I am sure you
are aware of what that growth
has meant in terms of your own

I am not sure that all of you

Hail? HA:\VAII
"Neither rain, nor snow, nor
sleet, nor HAIL .... " and can you
belie~e that is what it did one·
hour before the Thornton Employees'
Hawaiian Luau this past August?!
But that didn't stop anyone
from having a good time. The
employees who volunteered to help
,::,- ....
combined their efforts to Dove
everything: the food, decorations,
tables and chairs all over to the
Recreation Center gymnasium and
the gala event was held there.
Of course the sun came out at
six o'clock; right ~hen the party
oornme n oe'd , Approximately seventyfive Thornton employees and their
families attended. The 70 lb roastec
pig was gone in no time and Hawaiian
hula dancers received quite an
ovation.

_FIRE Dept. Upaate
The weekend of Sept. 9-10 was
a busy one for the firefighters
with an automobile accident resulting in the death of a 20
year old woman and then a fire
in a mobile home park.
When the call for the mobile
home fire was received, the firefighters were awa r e that there
was the possibility of persons
being trapped inside the home.
Upon arrival, the lifeless
body of a man was found. After
searching with the other firefighters, Fir·ef ighter Specialist
Paramedic Jack Patton found the
body of an unconscious 4 year
old girl.
He then took the child
out of the home and proceeded to
apply mouth to mouth resucitation
for approximately 4 minutes until
the child began breathing again.
The child and her mother were
both transported by the Flight for
Life Helicopter to St. Anthony's
Central in Denver.
Congratulations to all of the
men on 'C' shift who were on the
call and did such a fine job, and
of course, to Lynn Rotz and Karol
(Buth) Schmidt who have the job
of the follow-up investigation.

The Building and Maintance
Division was hard at work on
the second floor of City Hall
the past few weeks, tearing
out and replacing piping,
w±ring, and whatever else
that has been hidden in the
walls and ceilings. The
dynamic duo of Ken and Del
proceeded to pound away adjacent
to the new Word Processor's
office (welcome to the City
Sharon). Sharon and Pam
weathered the pounding storm
quite well. Then both the
word processing machine and
the saxon copy machine went
on the blink. They were
exiled to standard typewriters
wherever one was available.
Penny Conlin and Nancy
Vincent have been busy with
people registering to vote
for the November election.
Penny now has a big bright
pink and purple map to help
people identify what ward
they live in. Unfortunately,
however, none of Penny's
clothes match the new map,
so she's got to go out and
buy a new wardrobe.
.
Most of us on the second
floor at City Hall have been
buying Marcia's lunches
since we are too lazy to
brown bag. Sandra has the
lettuce dieter's special
each day, and we are beginning to fear she may
turn into a rabbit.
I
asked her if there was any
truth to an impending
metamorphosis, but she
would only twitch her
nose at me. Yours truly
is planning a long three
week auto trip to the East
coast.
I will reveal all
next month.
